Hi JP, as far as I know, the D7 visa won’t be affected. The changes are mostly planned for Portugal’s citizenship timeline (proposal to increase it from 5 to 10 years of residency), but this is still making its way through Parliament, and isn’t signed into law yet. However, if eventual citizenship is your goal, you may want to wait until the law is finalised before moving ahead with your plans.

We plan to live in a smaller city and have been taking Portuguese but we’ve just learned that residency/visa requirements are changing drastically.

We can’t tell if these changes are immediate, commencing at some future date, or being phased in somehow. Do you know when or how these might take place?
