Too many countries. Too much information. No clear decision.

Portugal looks appealing. But what about Spain? Or France? Perhaps somewhere further afield?

You've watched the YouTube videos, read the articles, compared the costs, and researched the visa options.

Yet you're no closer to deciding where to go.

And the more you research, the more complicated everything seems.

Choosing a country involves far more than finding somewhere affordable with good weather.

You need somewhere you can realistically build a life, taking into account your lifestyle, finances, residency options, long-term goals, and the compromises you're prepared to make.

Choose poorly, and you could waste months pursuing an unsuitable destination, spend thousands on a move you regret, or commit years to a country that doesn't support your longer-term ambitions.

You don't need another list of the world's best countries to live in. You need a reliable way to decide which ones are right for you.

What you'll walk away with

Know what makes a country realistic for you

Cut through the confusion and identify the lifestyle, financial, and residency requirements that matter most to your move.

Spot potential dealbreakers before wasting months researching a country that might never work for you.

Narrow your shortlist to 2–3 countries where possible

Move beyond endless country comparisons and focus on the destinations that best match your priorities and long-term goals.

Understand the trade-offs, not just the attractions.

Know what to investigate next and how to do it

Leave with a practical plan for checking residency options, researching everyday life, and testing your preferred destinations.

Make your next move with fewer unknowns and a better understanding of what could go wrong.

What we'll cover

Discover what you really need from a country

Go beyond cost of living and climate.

Examine lifestyle, culture, community, healthcare, infrastructure, language, and the everyday realities that determine whether you enjoy living somewhere.

Consider how your priorities might evolve over the next 5 or 10 years.

Understand your residency options, especially in Europe

A country might look perfect on paper, but can you actually live there?

We'll explore common European residency pathways, including options for retirees, people with passive income, remote workers, and entrepreneurs.

You'll learn how to assess residency requirements, financial considerations, and longer-term opportunities for permanent residency or citizenship, so you can identify which routes are worth investigating.

We'll also consider how immigration requirements can influence your choice of country before you commit time and money to a move.

Find and compare promising destinations

Explore popular European destinations alongside alternatives elsewhere in the world.

Learn how to research potential countries, look beyond misleading rankings, and evaluate the practical trade-offs between different options.

Narrow your choices whether you're starting from scratch or already have a shortlist.

Avoid costly relocation mistakes

Learn from my 7 international moves, including lessons about choosing destinations, managing expectations, and recognizing the difference between somewhere you love visiting and somewhere you'll enjoy living.

Understand why a country that suits you today might not suit you forever.

Test your options before committing

Learn how to investigate everyday living conditions, plan meaningful scouting trips, and use extended stays where possible to test whether a destination meets your expectations.

Create a plan for researching and verifying your options before taking the next step.

Why learn with me?

Dr. Samantha North

I'm Dr. Samantha North, founder of Digital Émigré.

I've made 7 international moves, living abroad for periods ranging from several months to many years.

I've spent over 6 years living in Portugal, navigating the realities of European residency and pursuing my own second citizenship.

Through Digital Émigré, I've also spent years researching and explaining European residency and citizenship pathways, helping people understand the practical options available to them.

There's no universally perfect country. There's only the country that's the best fit for your circumstances, priorities, and goals.

When I moved to Madeira in 2020, it was exactly what I needed at that point in my life.

Now, 6 years later, I'm reconsidering whether it's still the right place for me.

Choosing where to live isn't necessarily a once-and-for-all decision.

I'll share the practical approach I've developed through these experiences to help you make a more informed choice about your own future.

What's included

You'll apply what you're learning to your own circumstances throughout the session.

This is a standalone, practical masterclass, not a teaser for a more expensive program. You'll leave with guidance and a workbook you can put to work immediately.

Is this masterclass right for you?

This workshop is designed for you if:

You don't need to have a destination in mind already or be ready to move immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know which countries I'm considering?

No. The workshop is designed for people starting from scratch as well as those comparing several potential destinations. Before the session, you'll receive a pre-workshop questionnaire to help you think about what you want from your move, so you arrive ready to get the most from the exercises.

Will you tell me exactly where I should move?

I'll guide you through a structured process for identifying suitable destinations based on your circumstances. You'll develop your own shortlist and understand what needs further investigation before making a decision.

Will you help me understand my residency options?

Yes. We'll discuss common residency pathways, particularly in Europe, how they differ, and which might be worth exploring based on your goals and circumstances. I'll also answer general questions during the live Q&A.

The masterclass doesn't include individual visa eligibility assessments, application reviews, or legal representation.

Is this only for Americans and Brits?

No. The framework applies regardless of nationality, although immigration requirements and residency opportunities vary depending on your citizenship.

What if I'm considering a temporary move or an extended stay first?

We'll discuss how scouting trips and extended stays can help you evaluate destinations before making a longer-term commitment.

What if I can't attend live?

You'll receive the recording and workbook. Attending live allows you to participate in the exercises and Q&A.

How long is the masterclass?

Approximately 2 hours of teaching and guided exercises, followed by around 30 minutes of live Q&A.

Your next chapter deserves better than guesswork.

Forget generic “best countries to live” lists, passport rankings that tell you little about where you can actually settle, and relocation advice that barely scratches the surface of what living abroad involves.

I've made 7 international moves. I know the difference between a country that looks good on paper and one that works in real life.

I'll help you look beyond the headlines, understand the trade-offs, and identify the destinations that genuinely deserve your consideration.
